What can it be used for?

If you are 18 or over aripiprazole can be used to treat and prevent recurrence of mania

If you are 15 or over, the doctor can prescribe aripiprazole for you as a licensed medicine for schizophrenia Aripiprazole is licensed in people aged 13-18 years for treating mania for up to 12 weeks If you are under 13, there is less research about its use and effectiveness in young people Aripiprazole is now recommended as a treatment for schizophrenia in young people aged 15-17 who have not responded to the medicine risperidone The long acting injection, Abilify Maintena™, is not licensed in people aged 17 years and younger. It is licensed for use in adults for schizophrenia Even so, specialists might prescribe it if it is the best medicine for you
Ways to take and what's in it?

5mg, 10mg, 15mg, and 30mg strengths

Orodispersible (‘melt in your mouth’) Tablets (10mg and 15mg strengths)

1mg/ml – one 5ml spoonful is like a 5mg tablet

The short acting injection contains 9.75mg in one injection. It is usually used in hospital when needed in an emergency. The new monthly injection, Abilify Maintena™, contains 400mg in one injection.
