Taking Melatonin to treat insomnia

Melodie detail

I am going to share my experience of taking Melatonin which is prescribed to treat insomnia.

I was on the medication for about a month, I was pretty relived to have been given the prescription as I was only getting around 2 hours sleep a night. if that. The first two days that I took the medication it made made me feel really drowsy and I nodded off within 30 minutes.

After a couple of days I was becoming extremely tired in the day time to the point where I could not stay awake and would have to sleep for 4-5 hours, which resulted in me not sleeping at all at night.

Because of this I stopped taking the medication, I found that this was a big mistake as it came as a shock to my body. I was barely sleeping at all.

If I could go back I would have asked my GP for a different medication as this one did not seem to work for me at all!

Afterwards I found out that I should have been taking it earlier in the evening. I did not know this at the time.

I'm not saying that Melatonin won't work for everyone. I want others to be aware of the side effects I experienced.
